Accompanying the wines and cavas from El Penedès, there is also place for the rich and tasty native gastronomy. The most traditional cuisine is made with poultry, being the muscovy duck and the cockerels from Penedès the most representative ones. The region has always taken good care of its poultry, feeding it with natural products. For that reason, the eggs from El Penedès where the most expensive in Catalonia in the old days and Vilafranca continues celebrating its Cockerel Fair. The restaurants do not forget the excellent poultry cuisine as well as other season dishes such as “xató”, typical from the Penedès and Garraf regions.
Not to be forgotten are the traditional desserts, starting with the sweet pastries of Vilafranca (Coques), the Gelidencs from Gelida, Coques de les Viudes or Noiets from Sant Sant Sadurní and Carquinyolis from Sant Quintí or Torrelles de Foix, as well as many other specialities from the region’s many bakers, alon with specific proposals from it’s chocolate professionals.
