INTRODUCTION

enoturismePENEDES (Penedès Wine Tourism) is a project managed by the Alt Penedès Tourism Promotion Consortium, based on the region's winemaking identity. The project is designed to introduce people to the region, its culture, its heritage, etc. It involves the integration of both public and private interests, all acting within the wine sector, and adopting a common objective: the promotion of wine culture and of tourism in the region covered by the Penedès Designation of Origin. This union is aimed at increasing potential customers, by drawing together customers that are moved by touristic, cultural and heritage interests.

In 1997, the region saw the inauguration of the Alt Penedès Wine and Cava Routes, which was a pioneering initiative in the whole of Spain at that time. In 1999, the management of these routes was taken over by the Alt Penedès Tourism Promotion Consortium, and in 2001, it became one of the six pilot territories of the "Wine Routes in Spain". In 2004, of these territories, only four received recognition of their quality. The Alt Penedès was one of them.

The year 2005 saw the drawing up of the Alt Penedès Wine and Cava Tourism Strategic Plan. This Plan involved an essential and strategic change: the scope of the project broadened, expanding its initial district focus to a scope that encompassed the entire DO Penedès winemaking territory. Thus, unification of the wine tourism offering across the entire DO was achieved, and a response given to business demand from establishments located outside of the Alt Penedès district. The drawing up of this Plan has allowed the definition of the main lines of wine tourism development, involving the maximum number of agents in the region in order to achieve a consensus that makes it viable.

PENEDÈS WINE Tourism CLUB

At present, the PENEDÈS Wine Tourism Club groups together 176 member establishments. With their varied profiles, together they compose a map of establishments that make up a kaleidoscope of all the characteristics traits of this region.
