Modernism in Penedès

Discover the modernist sites of Penedès by following its magnificent routes and admiring its extraordinary architecture.

Enjoy the legacy of Puig and Cadafalch, Santiago Güell and Antoni Pons...

Modernism, expressed in its fullest sense in the field of architecture, is one of the most outstanding movements and with the highest number of examples in the region, including Penedès. Prominent architects such as Puig and Cadafalch, Antoni Pons and Santiago Güell, among others, were responsible for building some of these great architectural works which, in their day and even now, provide the towns where they are located with a majesty and wonder that cannot be overlooked.

Vilafranca del Penedès, Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and Gelida offer you the chance to discover this artistic and social movement on their respective tours. They will help you understand how and why modernism came to Penedès and observe the distinctive nature of the movement in each of the different buildings and residences in the towns.

However, we would also like to encourage you to discover the surviving traces of this movement in other parts of the region. Visit great works with modernist touches in Penedès, such as the Cau Ferrat Museum in Sitges, a temple of Modernism founded by Santiago Rusiñol, or the Monument complex of Sa Roca, with the restoration of Puig i Cadafalch in the Romanesque church of Santa María del Castillo.

And meanwhile, if you are interested in the world of wine and cava, organise your tour from a different and unique perspective, go and see the outstanding architectural work of Puig and Cadafalch in Codorníu and contemplate the various examples of this movement to be found in Ludens, Freixenet, Mascaró and Oriol Rossell, sites where you can discover Catalan Modernism related to wine-growing...

You'll be amazed!
